DAY 11: a short jont!

This day was another shorty, in fact our shortest and easiest cycle yet….which after the hardships of the previous day, was very much enjoyed by us both. Again cycling up alongside the water (Loch Creran, Sound of Shuna and across Loch Leven just after Ballachulish) which provided more great views but again with it a whole load of rain.

This continued up to Ballachulish where we stopped to prepare and eat our lunch that we had purchased in Benderloch, keeping the costs to a minimum! After that we continued on up into Fort William where the weather was nice and we achieved our earliest arrival time, this time to the Glen Nevis SYHA near the foot of Ben Nevis. Here we sorted ourselves out, got cleaned up and changed and went and spent the afternoon/evening in Fort William itself. That was where we last had the chance to update the blog (first place with signal in a few days) so we took advantage up until battery charge took us out the game again - proving quite a hardship to keep everything up to date!

We had our dinner and went back up to the hostel where we relaxed for a while (probably our least favorite hostel so far but nothing to bad). The place was filled to the brim with climbers, cyclists, a huge gang of dutch harley davidson riders and a massive group of chinese children….so there was plenty going on! We also met a great guy who we spent a while talking with regarding the cycle and other challenges etc. He was big into his cycling and had previously done the same cycle as us although (as with most people) on a more direct route! This time though he had just as we met him completed the 3 peaks challenge - whereby you climb Snowdon, Scaffolds Pike and Ben Nevis with the twist of cycling between them all! Perhaps one for the future!!!

Our knees have continued to play part in the story to this stage, Kyle still wearing his support on the left knee but with pains begining to span over to the right side (hopefully not to develop any further) and myslef, having ditched the support due to a lack of diference and some bad rubbing, continuing to have problems with the left knee which is now pretty swollen. Sore yes but not a problem as far as can be told, so we are just both powering through!

A short day so I’ll leave it at that, but as you can see from the photos we have been thoroughly enjoying the great scenery that our fine country has to offer…..a pinch of rain to go with is not much of a sacrifice in comparison and is certainly been worth the hard work down on some of the veyr boring A roads down south.

Cheers
